Two Chattanooga women facing charges in connection to armed robbery

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – Armed robberies happen in Chattanooga almost every day but it usually don’t involve a group of female suspects.

Chattanooga police have arrested Shaquille Burks, 22, of Chattanooga and Dextiny Staples, 19, of Chattanooga in connection to an armed robbery in the parking lot the Woodland apartment complex.

The robbery reportedly happened on September 6th but the two women were arrested over the weekend after warrants were issued for their capture.

According to police, both suspects were with as many as four other female suspects who robbed two women at gunpoint.

The victims told police, as many as six women approached their car; two were armed. The victims were reportedly ordered out of the car at gunpoint and and body searched by the armed females.

The suspects reportedly stole $400 and a cell phone.

Burks bond was set at $250,000 and Staples bond was set at $75,000.

Both women are facing two counts of aggravated robbery.

There’s no word on the other four female suspects who were reportedly involved.

According to a News 12 criminal background check, Burks was arrested back in 2013 and charged with assault and theft. She entered a diversion program and ordered stay away from  Dillard’s and the Hamilton Place Mall. Earlier this year, she was arrested for vandalism and has yet to go before a judge on that charge.

Back in March, Staples plead guilty to a theft charge.
