Unity Group Leader: The MLK Parade is not canceled, just moved
The Unity Group co-chair, Rev. Charlotte Williams, said the change is due to a slight miscommunication between the group and city officials, as one of the largest murals in the U.S. was scheduled to be unveiled as a dedication to MLK at the same time as the parade.
“So when we heard that we decided that we would take it to the people," said Williams, "We are going to have it at Brainerd High School.”
The parade will kick off at 3 p.m. at the intersection of N. Moore Rd. and Brainerd Rd., and then hundreds will march a little more than a mile to Brainerd High.
“The Unity Group, we are strong," said Williams, "We are still here and we are going to keep moving on. It’s not about the venue, it’s about the spirit."
Line up starts at 1:45 p.m. between Waffle House and Ridgeview Baptist Church on N. Moore Rd. Shuttle buses will also be available for those who are not physically able to march.
