Update on investigation into dog shot with crossbow

FORT PAYNE, Alabama (WDEF) – Fort Payne Police continue to investigate the case of a dog shot by a crossbow.

Graphic images of two dogs that were shot have been circulating on Facebook this week.

But the surviving American bulldog was shot in the city limits.

Police were frustrated at the delay in reporting the case because it set them back.

Now Chief Bynum says they know the bulldog was shot in the 1900 block of Godfrey Aveune NE.

Animal Control officers took it to the shelter, and a concerned citizen later took it to the Dekalb Animal Hospital.

The photo shows the bolt pierced the dog’s leg and went into its stomach, but it was still standing.

The chief says the dog is improving.

“Our investigators are working to try to find the offender who shot this animal. We are only working the animal that was found inside Fort Payne, not the one that occurred in Cherokee County. If you have any information please call the police department at 256-845-1414.

*** We have elected not to post the photos of the dogs because of their graphic nature. But you can find them on the Fort Payne Police Department Facebook page.
