Update on Signal Mountain woods fires

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Late Sunday afternoon, Hamilton County officials say that 65 acres is burning in the Flipper Bend woods area on Signal Mountain.

The Tennessee Division of Forestry and the Tennessee State Parks continue to cut new fire breaks to contain the fire.

Officials say an Air National Guard helicopter made several water drops over the area this afternoon and a US Forestry Service plane will drop Fire Retardant over the area later.

Hamilton County officials say no structures are endangered and remind residents that these fires will burn for several days but are being monitored by Tennessee Forestry personnel.
