UTC and City of Chattanooga selected for MetroLab Network

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The City of Chattanooga and UTC have been selected as members of the MetroLab Network.

That’s group of 35 city-university partnerships, focused on bringing data, analytics, and innovation to city government.

What that could mean for the Chattanooga area?

Chattanooga and UTC are joining the elite group of research institutions because of its “smart city” initiatives.

Metro-lab is collaborating on creating the most advanced modeling applications for planners and developers. That includes autonomous vehicles, along with a lot of other things.

All of the cities in Metro-Lab are working on separate projects. But, for now, students at UTC are focused on autonomous vehicles and have even set up a test driving area.

The university is working with EPB, which provides the high speed fiber link, and the city is a test-bed.

And, yes, you will be seeing some driverless vehicles over near UTC as the research continues.
