UTC Women Tip Thursday in SoCon Tourney Against Furman

(gomocs.com) CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Ingle’s Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Championship presented by General Shale and will face sixth-seeded Furman Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C.

The Mocs (14-9, 9-5) and Paladins (10-13, 6-8) split the series in Greenville, S.C., earlier this season with UTC winning the opening game 68-56 before falling 52-46 two days later.

Samford (14-8, 11-2) claimed the title outright in head coach Carley Kuhn’s second season as head coach. Last year the Bulldogs tied with the Mocs and UNCG for the first-ever three-way tie for the regular season crown. Samford will take on No. 8 seed East Tennessee State (3-15, 1-10) in the opening game of the championships at Noon. Samford won the only game between the two teams.

In the second game, No. 4 Wofford (11-10, 7-7) and No. 5 UNCG (8-15, 6-8) will face off. Each team took a win in the series. Second-seeded Mercer (16-6, 10-3) will take on No. 7 Western Carolina (6-17, 3-10) in the third game of the quarterfinals. The Bears won both meetings.

Chattanooga, one of four teams able to get in all 14 SoCon contests, swept both Western Carolina and ETSU this season but split with Samford, Mercer, Furman, UNCG and Wofford.

The Mocs game against Furman will be the final game of the day. The winner will take on the winner of the Mercer-Western Carolina matchup in the semifinal at 2:15 p.m. Friday. The championship game will be held Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

All women’s basketball games will be held at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville and are set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
