Veterans Remember Vietnam War Servicemembers

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (WDEF) — A group of veterans is recognizing fellow servicemembers who were in the Vietnam War.

They stopped by the Veterans Memorial Park in Collegedale, Tuesday, to install a brick honoring their fallen comrades, of the 1/77 Scouts of the 5th Infantry Division, who served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971.

This group has a memorial service and reunion in different parts of the country every year to keep in touch, and remember those lost.

“It’s an awesome feeling to know that you’re bringing remembrance to these guys. What we went through, it’s a shame. It would be a shame not to get back together as we get older, and honor these guys,” said Alan Blankenship, an Army veteran.

Blankenship says this year’s reunion will be held in East Ridge.

The new brick will be part of a memorial service on September 21 at this same location.
