Hamilton Co. looking to improve railroad traffic tie-ups at Volkswagen

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Hamilton county commission this morning agreed to seek more funding to help ease rail congestion at Enterprise South.

The commission authorized Mayor Jim Coppinger to ask the US department of transportation and the state of Tennessee for $10.5 million for rail improvements in the park.

Commissioner Joe Graham said “what’s happening with the Volkswagen expansion and the Enterprise South expansion, is our rail lines out there are, like the freeway, clogging up.

The entire project will cost about 15.4 million dollars.

Matching funds will come from Hamilton county and the county rail authority.
