Volkswagen Wants Chattanooga Land Ready for Future Expansion

Volkswagen wants to be ready to expand in Chattanooga, if and when they make that decision.

The automaker asked the city to start grading land Northwest of the current plant for future development.

You may recall, Chattanooga and Hamilton County public works crews cleared and graded the original site, in a bid to land Volkswagen in 2008.  Site work will take 12 to 18 months to complete.

Although Volkswagen claims nothing is imminent, VW officials have long discussed a "mirror" plant at Enterprise South.

Chattanooga City Councilman Manny Rico says "they’re wanting us to clean up the property there to make it suitable for putting buildings out there.  When it first came into fruition, we really didn’t know how big it was going to be, we knew it was going to be big, but its getting bigger."

Also in the planning stages are a new road linking Highway 58 with the VW campus and additional buildings at the supplier park.
