Vols Get Rare Halloween Date With Kentucky

Normally Tennessee plays Kentucky in their final game of the year. But this year, the long-time rivals are playing on Halloween. The Vols need a win over the Wildcats to get their record back to five-hundred.

Playing Kentucky is about as close to a guaranteed win as Tennessee can get. In the last 50 years, UT has only five losses against the Wildcats. But Vols coach Butch Jones says you can’t look at history in playing this year’s Kentucky bunch.
Jones-"A lot of respect for what Mark (Stoops) is building at Kentucky. He’s done a very good job up there. A very, very, very explosive offense. Can score any time they get the football. Can score anywhere on the field."
Reporter-"You talked about recruiting (Kentucky QB) Patrick Towles. What do you remember about that recruiting process. What do you remember about him?"
Jones-"He’s a winner. He won numerous state championships. He’s a leader. You can see that. You knew he could make every throw."
Kentucky is also ahead of the Vols in total defense.
Said quarterback Josh Dobbs-"They’re well-rounded across the board on defense. So offensively, we’ll have to come out, understand the game plan, and be ready to execute."
Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs has played extremely well in his two starts against the Wildcats. Last year he threw for nearly 300-yards in UT’s 50-16 victory.
Said Jones-"Being smart with the football. That’s first and foremost. Just being smart with the football. He has been able to do that. We’re going to need that Saturday night. We’re going to need that big time."
If Tennessee can run the table to finish the season, they’ll wind up with a solid, 8-4 record.
Said receiver Josh Malone-"We’re not even focusing on the schedule. We’re just taking it one game at a time. Really just focusing on getting better as a team."
