Vols Hop on ‘The Energy Bus’ to Start the New Season
This summer, Vols head coach Butch Jones had his players read a book called ‘The Energy Bus’, which is about creating positive energy.
Jones is trying to find some positives since he’ll have a super young team.
"You know sometimes I feel like we’re an expansion team with some first and second round draft choices and some veterans. But as we know, this league is very unforgiving, especially when you play a lot of true freshmen."
The SEC is also unforgiving at the line of scrimmage, and UT will basically field an entire new offensive and defensive line.
Said offensive lineman Mack Crowder,"The SEC is played upfront. If you don’t have a good offensive and defensive line, then you’re probably not going to do very well."
Said Jones,"You know it’s our offensive and defensive lines. Quite simply, we’ll be as good as those two positions develop."
At least the Vols will shoulder be stronger in the trenches.
Said Jones,"As we sit here before you today, we have eleven individuals who can squat over 600-pounds."
Added Crowder,"We still have a chip on our shoulder. We want to get back to where we are supposed to be in the SEC."
But who will shoulder the Vols offense at quarterback. It’s still a three man race to be the starter.
Said Jones,"For us, it doesn’t matter when we name him. They are all three going to be ready. And all three must be ready. Shoot we found that out last year."
At least the starting quarterback should have some weapons.
Said quarterback Justin Worley,"I think depth at wide receiver is going to be huge for us this year. Being able to rotate guys. Not having Marquez North or some of these guys playing 70 or 80 snaps."
