Vols and Kentucky Prepare For Round Two on Rocky Top
Kentucky knocked Tennessee out of their number one ranking last month, beating the Vols 86-69 in Lexington. Now we get round two between the top ten teams Saturday in Knoxville.
Vols coach Rick Barnes admits his team was manhandled two weeks ago in their loss to Kentucky.
Said Barnes:”I do think they were more physical. No question about that. I think our guys know that. So we’ve just got to play harder than we played, I think everyone knows that.”
But Cats coach John Calipari knows what his team will be facing when they arrive on Rocky Top.
Said Calipari:”Now you are playing in their building, and they’re really good. It’s a hard deal. But I’ve been here ten years, and the Tennessee game is the first game I can ever remember seeing the opponents fans in our building. I saw orange. I was like what in the world? And those tickets were expensive. Must mean they have very wealthy fans. I have no idea. But they were there. Really means they’re into this basketball team.”
Said Barnes:”I mean we are at home, but I don’t think. I think they realize just being at home that doesn’t mean anything if you don’t come out and play hard and do your job.”
Reporter:”What’s the one thing you did in the first game that you’ve got to do tomorrow?”
Said Calipari:”Get Reid (Travis) healthy.” (laughter)
Yeah 6’8 Reid Travis has missed Kentucky’s last two games with a knee sprain.
Said Calipari:”This will be a hard game whether he plays or not. It’s just that this is a team that doesn’t beat themselves. This a team that’s physical. This is a team that is a veteran team that has been through everything.”
So here we are first of March, and two teams tied for first will duke it out at Thompson Boling Arena.
Said Calipari:The good news for us is they have as much to lose as we do. It’s always nice every once in awhile, maybe three times a year to have a game like that.”
Saturday’s contest tips at 2pm, and it will be televised on News 12 Now.
