Vols Ready to End Florida’s Decade of Dominance in SEC Rivalry
It has been a decade of dominance for Florida against Tennessee.
But on Saturday, the Vols are actually favored to end their long losing skid to their conference rival.
Reporter-"Since you took over the program, has somebody talked to you about how important it is to beat Florida?"
Smiles Vols head coach Butch Jones,"Numerous."
The last time Tennessee beat Florida was 2004 when James Wilhoite kicked a 50-yard field goal with 13 seconds left to give UT a 30-28 victory.
Reporter-"Hard to believe Florida has won nine straight?"
Said Jones,"You know I can’t speak of the past. All I know is the present. Team 118 controls that this week. Great thing is most of our football team hasn’t even been here for those games."
Said linebacker Curt Maggitt,"It’s a rivalry for sure. So that stands out. We know we have to approach it like every other week preparation wise."
To add more juice to Saturday’s matchup, Tennessee will try to checker Neyland Stadium after a twitter campaign by Vols fans.
Fans attending are asked to wear orange or white, depending on what section they sit in.
Said Maggitt,"Checkerboard Neyland. It’s going to be epic."
Added Jones,"To have a fan initiative of checkerboarding Neyland. I think it speaks volumes. Most places they have to manufacture that where our fans come out and it’s on them."
Tennessee heads into the game after losing by three to Georgia.
Saturday’s game will likely be just as difficult.
Said Jones,"Every week is a new season in and of itself. And again, it’s a new week. It’s a new opportunity. I expect them to bounce back. I expect them to be ready to go both mentally and physically."
