Vols Suffer First SEC Road Loss Falling to Arkansas 69-64
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) – Bobby Portis had 17 points and eight rebounds as Arkansas atoned for an earlier loss with a 69-64 win over Tennessee on Tuesday night.
The win is the third straight for the Razorbacks (16-4, 5-2 Southeastern Conference), who are off to their best 20-game start since going 17-3 to open the 1997-98 season.
Arkansas lost 74-69 in Knoxville two weeks ago, but it rallied in the return matchup behind Portis and Michael Qualls – who scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half.
Alandise Harris and Anton Beard each added 10 points for the Razorbacks.
The loss in the first on the road in conference play for the Volunteers, who were trying to improve to 4-0 away from home in the SEC for the first time since 1982.
Josh Richardson led Tennessee (12-7, 4-3) with 17 points. Robert Hubbs added 15, Armani Moore 12 and Kevin Punter 10.
The Vols welcome back former coach Bruce Pearl on Saturday as Auburn visits Thompson Boling Arena.
