Volunteers putting flags & crosses for Ringgold Memorial Day

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – For years, volunteers have gathered in May to put up full sized flags and crosses to honor Catoosa County veterans on Memorial Day.

Almost 16-HUNDRED flags are going up in downtown Ringgold.

They have white crosses, naming the veteran who’s being honored.

Volunteers and R-O-T-C units were there.

Pete Pedigo has been HELPING OUT for more than a decade.

He’s honoring 3 of his relatives with flags.

“Everybody’s just thrilled about it and we have tourists that stop at the motels or restaurants or whatever and see them and they just, you see them out there taking pictures and asking questions and whatever. It’s all positive.”

The cost of a flag is 65-dollars, and they need to be replaced every few years.

They will also need more volunteers on Monday, June 4th at 9 AM, to take the flags and crosses back down.
