CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Volunteers are needed for the placing of flags at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

With Memorial Day approaching, the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council (CAVC) will coordinate the placement of Flags on the 49,800 graves at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 7:00 am and Retiring the Flags on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 7:00 am.

Those volunteering should be at the Cemetery on May 23rd at 7:00 a.m. and should park on the right side of the Cemetery Road.

“One of the most patriotic ways of honoring a veteran laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery is by placing a Flag on their grave. This Flag placement and Retirement is a very special way of saying Thank You for Serving Our Country”

– Captain Mickey McCamish, U. S. Navy (Retired) said.

Flags will be in blue containers; Flags should be taken from the containers, placed in the center, approximately 12 inches in front of and 3 inches deep of the Grave markers.

To assist with the depth placement, volunteers may consider bringing a screwdriver to make a hole and insert the Flag.
