Water company puts installs temporary water pipe across the Walnut Street Bridge

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – We showed you the repairs that Tennessee American Water is making to a pipe under the Tennessee River.

The pipe supplies water to North Chattanooga, Red Bank and Hixson.

Right now, the water company is down to one main water pipe supplying the area while the repairs are underway to the other one.

So now they have put up a temporary pipe over the Walnut Street Bridge.

It runs down the side of the pedestrian walk, so the company warns pedestrians to be careful not to trip.

The temporary backup line will help with water pressure fluctuations.

“We appreciate the community’s patience while we complete the repair as well as the support from the City of Chattanooga,” said Tennessee American Water President Valoria Armstrong. “We know what a special place the walking bridge is to all of us. We want to make sure there is minimal impact so the bridge can still be enjoyed during this temporary arrangement.”
