CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Tennessee State Senator Bo Watson gave a budget presentation to some of his constituents  morning.

This was at the Friends of Hixson meeting at Clear Creek Church of Christ.

He discussed the process of passing the $52.6 billion budget and fielded questions.

Several questions were about the upcoming special session called by Governor Bill Lee in the wake of the Covenant School Shooting in March. The Governor has said he wants the legislature to pass a red flag law.

Senator Watson said, “No, I’m not open to the red flag provision. I think that we can look at other strategies. Obviously, we’ve learned from 9/11 that hardening targets makes a significant difference and that’s why you’ve seen us invest heavily in hardening targets.”

Senator Watson also mentioned that school safety was already being discussed before the shooting in the legislature.

The Special Session is being held in August.
