Watts Bar reactor trips just days after producing power
SPRING CITY, Tennessee (WDEF) – The new nuclear reactor at the Watts Bar plant didn’t produce power for very long.
On Friday, TVA connected the new reaction to the electric system for the first time.
But on Sunday at 12:27, Unit 2 automatically tripped.
TVA officials say all equipment operated as designed.
Now workers are troubleshooting the main turbine control system.
Officials say when they resolve the issue, the Power Ascension Testing will resume where it left off.
They say this latest development is just part of the process of powering up a new nuclear reactor.
