West Star Aviation brings new Jobs to Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport is adding a $20 million expansion, and this time it’s bringing jobs.

Some of the new workers even started today.

“They are up and running today there are airplanes coming through each and every day and they are up to 55 employees here in Chattanooga,” says Terry Hart,  “It brings 100 more jobs to the airport and aerospace type jobs which is very important, we are very excited about seeing that growth here in Chattanooga.”

Airport president Terry Hart says these jobs make up different fields, not just mechanical jobs.

The two additional facilities will house painting and wood shops.

Hart believes this expansion will bring more business to the surrounding area, as well.

“It will have a benefit to other people in the community in terms of whether it be hotels or restaurants or car rentals and such because in that type of business will bring airplanes in and will leave them there for a period of time and have certain work done on them in and so I think it’s gone have a lot of different pieces in the community as they continue to grow,” says Hart.

West Star expects the average pay for employees will be about 26 to 27 dollars an hour.

This in turn will bring about 5 to 10 million-dollars in revenue to Chattanooga in the first year alone.

“We are very excited about this opportunity, it is something different and to land West Star, no pun intended, but it was very important to see them come here and to see them grow and we are excited about that and we are looking forward to get that first bit of dirt turned and we start that construction process,” stated Hart.

The airport plans to start construction by May first and hopes to be done with the project by summer of next year.
