Whitfield House Fire blamed on lightning

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – Officials believe lightning from last night’s thunderstorms in northwest Georgia ignited at least one house fire.

They were called to a home on Harvest Way near Varnell in Whitfield County for a lightning strike.

By the time crews arrived on scene, the home was fully involved in flames.

A firefighter suffered an ankle injury battling the blaze.
