Woman charged with infant’s death in Gadsden crash

GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) – A woman has been charged in the death of an infant following a Gadsden crash.

Gadsden police Sgt. John Hallman tells news agencies that 39-year-old Shannon Dereisse St. George was arrested Tuesday on a murder charge in the 7-month-old’s death.

Hallman says St. George was driving a SUV April 21 when she collided with another vehicle carrying the baby and his parents as it exited a Dairy Queen parking lot.

The child was taken to a hospital, where he died April 25.

Hallman says St. George admitted to investigators that she had used crack cocaine and consumed alcohol before driving.

Blood and urine tests confirmed the substances in her system.

Police say St. George ran a red light a moment before the crash.

It’s unclear if she has an attorney.
