Woman sexually assaulted at Erlanger; suspect arrested
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – Chattanooga police are investigating an alleged sexual assault at Erlanger involving a suspect who reportedly worked at the hospital.
Wayne Marcereau, 45, of Calhoun has been charged with one count of sexual battery after a woman claimed he sexually assaulted her in the Erlanger parking garage.
According to an affidavit obtained by News 12, The alleged crime happened on August 5.
The alleged victim reported the crime seven days later and Marcereau was arrested on a warrant for sexual battery on Tuesday.
The victim told police went to Erlanger to visit a friend who had just given birth. She also told police that while she was there, she made contact with Marcereau whom she described as a friend who worked as an RN at Erlanger.
According to the affidavit, Marcereau asked the woman to meet him at his car on the third floor of the hospital garage.
The victim told police that when she met Marcereau at his vehicle, he attempted to get her in the car and she told him, “no.” The victim said Marcereau grabbed her breast and attempted to put his hand up her skirt. She told police she pushed him away and went back into the hospital.
Although the victim describes Marcereau as a registered nurse at Erlanger, other published reports have listed Marcereau as a contract worker not directly employed by Erlanger.
According to jail officials, Marcereau is out of jail on a $5,000 bond.
His next court date is August 25.
