Work begins on Ooltewah-Ringgold Road at Standifer Gap Road Roundabout

Ooltewah, TN (WDEF) – Officials break ground on a new project to fix a dangerous intersection in Ooltewah.

Crews started work Monday on a roundabout at the intersection of Ooltewah-Ringgold and Standifer Gap Road.
Officials expect the project to take about six months.
Engineers say the intersection can be very dangerous for drivers, so the changes are necessary.
John Agan serves as Hamilton County’s Director of Engineering.

He said, "This intersection since 2007 has seen 44 accidents. Those accidents have involved multiple vehicles including serious injuries so one of the important factors in the design and improvement to this intersection was to one, decrease speed while maintaining traffic flow. A roundabout provides that feature."
Officials say the skewed intersection makes a four way stop sign or a stop light nearly impossible.
