Wright finds star running back in Saturday’s roster shuffle

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — If you sift through Chattanooga’s controversial loss to Mercer Saturday, you can find some positives from Coach Rusty Wright starting the B team. For example, the all freshmen offensive line showed promise. Even more so, freshman running back Lance Jackson stunned with a record-setting debut.

The Norcross High product rushed for 135 yards — the most in history for a Chattanooga freshman’s debut. Not to mention his two touchdowns.

Jackson proved he can be counted on in Wright’s eyes. Wright said the Mocs have to keep creating opportunities for the younger players to get experience this spring.

“Couldn’t be more pleased with Lance,” Wright said. “We opened up some holes. Wish he was a little faster, but he did well. He actually protected really well when he was in there, which was good to see. Hit some holes like he should. It was good for him. Good for us.”

“It encouraged me to keep playing, going forward, you know, playing for my team,” Jackson said. “Hopefully I can get out and make an impact in the fall, and just help my team win.”
