WRWOS Ridgeland

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Many kids want to play sports in school, but they just can’t afford the high cost of all the equipment, but a Ridgeland High School senior found a way to do something about that problem.

The football and baseball star gathers donations of sports equipment for students in need.

We went to the block parties last year. And the kids were there playing baseball. Afterwards we ask them are they going to play sports this year? And they said no we don’t have any money to go buy equipment or anything. So that really touched me. I just wanted to do something for those kids. Who didn’t have money to go buy equipment to play sports.

Really God, I feel like he put me in the right place at the right time.

They saw something. They saw a neat. A matter of fact while we were there they said coach can we give them all, give them a couple of hats? That will be fine. So I look over at the truck, and they had given out about 2000 dollars worth of hats. But it was OK. They learned a whole lot from that day. It wasn’t about them. It was about those kids. So through this program they are going to be able to provide for a lot of them. I’m very proud of them.

I will have boxes and all of the elementary schools. I will have one in Fort O., that is open 24 hours. Just…. if they can bring it to one of those places that will be great.

He’s not looking for anything out of this. He’s looking how to make kids smile and make his day. So hopefully he can leave a legacy here. Ivy Voehm, started that. But as far as Ivy, Ivy doesn’t want anything other than get those kids out there to play ball.

If they want to play, and they don’t have a chance to, I’m hoping to give them that chance. And maybe they can make a career out of it. Or go to college off of it or something.  Maybe change their lives.
