YMCA Free Summer Meal Program for Students Starts Next Week

The YMCA will begin handing out free summer meals to anyone under the age of 18 starting next week. YMCA will be handing out the meals from 25 different locations across Chattanooga and North Georgia.

The meals are funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through their Summer Food Service Program. The ‘Grab and Go’ meals will be on a first come, first serve basis. The YMCA gave out four hundred thousand meals last year despite COVID-19.

Cara Standifer, CMO for YMCA Metropolitan Chattanooga says, “When school is out, often there are children who don’t eat if the schools are not providing those meals. So, we know there are families and children who rely heavily, particularly in certain areas, for the YMCA to provide those meals. And, not just were providing any type of meal, they’re healthy, well-balanced meals.”
