Dollywood’s New Wood Coaster, Lightning Rod, Closed After Recall

Pigeon Forge (WDEF) After being open for about a week, a recall forces Dollywood’s new wood rollercoaster, Lightning Rod, to close.

Rocky Mountain Construction, the manufacturer of the coaster, ordered the closure to replace a recalled mechanical part built into the ride.

The coaster was scheduled to open in March, but was delayed due to technical issues.

Billed as the world’s fastest and first launching wood coaster, the 22-million dollar ride marks the single largest attraction investment in The Dollywood Company’s history.
