16 year old charged with shooting at Walker County deputies

WALKER COUNTY, Georgia (WDEF) – The sheriff of Walker County reports that three of his deputies came under fire overnight.

They were responding to a suspicious person call at Mission Ridge and Johnson Roads west of the Chickamauga Battlefield around 1AM.

The first deputy tried to question a male at the intersection who fled.

But he turned and fired a shot at the officer, without hitting him.

More deputies showed up for backup, along with a K 9 officer.

Around Shaver Lane, they say the suspect fired another shot.

The deputies returned fire, hitting the suspect in the buttocks.

He was then detained by the K 9.

The suspect is a 16 year old, who was taken to the hospital.

The officers were not hurt in the incident.

Sheriff Wilson has asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the shooting.
