74 years ago this week, Charles Coolidge made history in World War II

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – It was this week in 1944, when Chattanooga’s Charles Coolidge decided to take a stand as he fought a German tank force in France.

Coolidge is now 97 years old, and the only living Medal of Honor recipient in Tennessee.

Today, County Mayor Jim Coppinger presented a proclamation to him.

Coolidge is being honored for holding off the enemy, becoming a true American hero.

His youngest son, John, told us today, “He was a twenty three year old young man at the time, and this is 74 years later, which, that in itself is a miracle.”

The Charles H. Coolidge Medal of Honor Heritage Center will soon be built near the aquarium.
