Dunlap firefighters help injured rock climber on Fredonia Mountain

DUNLAP, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Dunlap Fire Department helped rescue an injured rock climber on Fredonia Mountain over the weekend.

According to the fire department, they dispatched to the Woodcock Climbing Area around 6:30 p.m. CT on Sunday.

They said a rock climber had a leg injury and was below the bluff line. He called for help to get out.

Firefighters said he went as far as he could, but he could not make it through the steep pass of the bluff.

Once on scene, firefighters set up a haul system to get him up the steepest sections. They then placed him in a basket and carried him up.

The fire department said the victim returned to the trail head around 10 p.m. and did not accept transport by EMS.

Several local agencies assisted Dunlap firefighters.
