Chattanooga Shooting Update: Insights into the Investigation
Chattanooga police have identified the suspect in yesterday’s shooting in an office building near Hamilton Place Mall.
According to investigators, around 2 Tuesday afternoon 67-year-old John Schultz fired shots inside an office building near the two thousand blocks of Hamilton place boulevard. Police say Schultz was an employee of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau.
Callers reported that a man with a gun was firing shots inside the building. When police got there, they found a person matching descriptions given by witnesses with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Witnesses told them Schultz was pointing a gun at multiple employees and pulling the trigger. They were able to get away when the gun malfunctioned.
Police believe Schultz then pulled out a second gun and shot himself.
