Fatal motorcycle crash left one person dead

SODDY DAISY, Tenn. (WDEF) – On Saturday, an early morning motorcycle crash in the Soddy Daisy community has left one person dead.

First responders were called to the scene around 7:15 a.m. Monday at 517 Lee Pike.

Upon arrival, deputies found the body of a male victim and a heavily damaged motorcycle several yards away.

According to investigators, the motorcycle was traveling north on Lee Pike when it struck a mailbox near NeeCee Drive.

The crash occurred in the front yard of Donna Smith, a nearby homeowner who says she witnessed the aftermath from her porch.

“I’m not sure about the time,” Smith explained, “but I know it happened pretty early because of all the equipment and trucks that were out here. At first, they thought it was a fire, but it turned out to be an accident.”

Smith described the heartbreaking scene unfolding just feet from her home.

“His body was just lying right here and covered up with a sheet,” she said. “From my porch, I could see what looked like pieces of metal from the motorcycle.”

She added, “I saw him going into the ambulance with a white sheet.”

Smith claimed that they got his body, put him in a blue plastic bag, and carried him away.

“That was just a few minutes after 11.”

Smith said the victim appeared to be a young man.

“I really hate it. I hate it, hate it, hate it,” she repeated through tears. “I can’t imagine. He did look like a young man from what I could see. He had a white helmet on, so he was trying to be protected. But when he came over that hill, he was going too fast, and he went airborne. He lost control.”

The victim’s name has not yet been released, and no further details have been provided by the sheriff’s office.

The Hamilton County Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate.
