Salvation Army Launches Emergency Food Campaign to Meet Rising Local Need

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF)The Salvation Army of Greater Chattanooga has launched an emergency food campaign titled “Feed Hope. Share Love.”, responding to a dramatic increase in local food-assistance requests.

Kendall Hudson, Development Manager for The Salvation Army of Greater Chattanooga, says the organization is seeing the impact of rising food insecurity firsthand.
“We are definitely seeing an uptick in people needing food services, and with food insecurity on the rise, our hope is to reach and help as many people as possible,” Hudson said.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 13 percent of U.S. households experienced food insecurity last year, with nearly 18 percent of households with children facing challenges putting meals on the table.

“One in seven families in America experiences food insecurity,” Hudson added. “With these numbers rising, we’ve seen a greater urgency and need, which has prompted us to take more proactive steps to help fill those gaps.”

The Salvation Army provides multiple forms of food assistance, including pantry boxes and hot meals, to support families, seniors, and individuals facing hardship in the Chattanooga area. The new campaign aims to mobilize the community to donate and volunteer, helping ensure no one in the region goes hungry.
