Mocs Softball Team Wins Regular Season Finale
(GoMocs.com) GREENVILLE, S.C. — A combination of clutch pitching and timely hitting helped the Chattanooga Mocs softball team down SoCon leader Furman, 2-1, in the regular season finale in Greenville on Friday.
The Mocs finish the regular season at 14-36 overall and 4-14 in the Southern Conference and will play as the No. 7 seed in the SoCon Tournament. Furman finishes the regular season 31-21 overall and 11-6 in conference play. The Paladins would have clinched at least a share of the conference title with a win on Friday, but will have to wait to see their final seeding after this weekend’s UNCG-ETSU series.
The Southern Conference Tournament, hosted by Chattanooga at Frost Stadium, will begin on Wednesday, May 10, with the Mocs awaiting their matchup for a 12:30 p.m. game.

After an inning and a half of scoreless play, Furman scored in the bottom of the second after a pair of walks and a fielding error plated an unearned run, giving the Paladins a 1-0 lead.
The game would stay 1-0 Furman until the top of the sixth when back-to-back singles from Halie Williamson and Brook Womack with the bases loaded allowed the Mocs to take a 2-1 lead.
Starting pitcher Celie Hudson would shut the door in the final two innings to preserve the win. Hudson (5-9) earned the win in the circle, tossing a masterpiece complete game while surrendering only three hits and an unearned run while striking out five.
The Mocs would belt nine hits off the Southern Conference’s top pitcher, Lindsey Bert, as Katy Richardson led the way with a 3-for-3 performance and accumulated five hits during the three-game series. Aly Walker followed up with a 2-for-4 day including her ninth double of the season. Williamson went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Womack was 1-for-3 with an RBI. J.J. Hamill and Amy Lewis both registered singles in the win.
