Health officials warn the flu has arrived in northwest Georgia

North Georgia (WDEF) – Health officials in north Georgia are warning residents that the flu has arrived.

The North Georgia Health District reports an increase in the number of stamach virus and influenza outbreaks in our region.

Infection Disease Supervisor, Sherry Gregory, RN, says “Flu activity is increasing throughout our area.”

“We expect the flu season to reach its peak early this year, within the next few weeks, so it is important to get vaccinated now.”

“Flu vaccination not only protects the person who receives the vaccine but it also keeps them from spreading the flu virus to others.”

Gregory says it is not too late to get a flu vaccine.

Health officials advise that everyone over six months should get it.

They still have the vaccine at the health departments in Murray and Whitfield counties.
