Police details on National Cemetery shooting
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police release more details on what happened at the National Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.
They say they got a call from the Cemetery about an armed man.
They man was in the office acting erratically and threatening with a large knife.
When officers found him, they, too, concluded he was clearly agitated and it escalated from there.
They say the suspect ran toward the entrance of the cemetery and officers moved to isolate him from the public.
Then “the suspect.. placed officers in imminent, life threatening danger” and they shot him.
The suspect was taken to the hospital.
Police say he is suffering from non-life threatening injuries.
They took the knife into custody as evidence.
Hamilton County Sheriff’s investigators will handle the case from here, reporting to the DA’s Office.
