Baylor Back in State Semifinals For Third Straight Year as They Face Brentwood Academy
Chattanooga-(WDEF) After losing four straight games near the end of the regular season, Baylor has regrouped in the playoffs.
Last Friday, they pulled off a stunning upset on the road in Memphis against top-ranked MUS.
That win vaulted the Red Raiders into the state semi-finals tomorrow night, as they visit long time nemesis Brentwood Academy.
Baylor coach Phil Massey says he didn’t get to bed until five A-M following his team’s return from Memphis. But it’s always easy sleeping after a win.
Said receiver Tate Prater:”It’s a real confidence booster having gone all the way to Memphis and pulling out a game like that. It was a lot of fun.”
Said defensive back Henry White:”We hit that mid-season slump. People sort of gave up on us after McCallie. Yeah I think we definitely shocked some people.”
The Red Raiders will have to shock the world again tomorrow night against Brentwood Academy. The Eagles blanked Baylor earlier this year 35-0.
The Red Raiders haven’t beaten Brentwood since 2010.
Said Massey:”Well I mean you obviously. It doesn’t take much motivation when they have beaten you during the regular season. You just try to figure out ways that you can improve to try to help yourself or help your team succeed.”
Said White:”I don’t recall every beating them in my high school career. It’s kind of like last chance.”
Said Prater:”I don’t think Baylor has ever won at Brentwood Academy. We’ve won at Baylor. It would definitely be something we would like check off the list.”
This marks the third straight year Baylor has advanced to the final four.
But the Red Raiders were unable to take the final step the last two seasons and make the state title game.
Said Prater:”Two years ago we came very close to making the state championship but yes sir, hopefully we’ll be able to knock down that door this year and beat Brentwood Academy.”
Added Massey:”We’re going to have to play the best we have played all year this week to have an opportunity to beat a good Brentwood team.”
