Boyd QB Eli Morris phenomenal under fire

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Boyd Buchanan’s Eli Morris was one of the top-dual threat quarterbacks in our area last year, accounting for 29 touchdowns. The Bucs unassuming senior leader remains a threat this fall, racking up three more touchdowns in Boyd’s season opener.

You see Eli Morris get off the bus at 5’11, 165-pounds, you’re probably not too concerned. Good luck though stopping him on the field.

“Hearing somebody’s a gamer isn’t always a thing a coach wants to hear, but Eli, he’s definitely a gamer. We’ll go with that,” coach Jeremy Bosken said. “When the lights come on, he just takes it to a whole other level. He loves the pressure. He loves just being coached. He loves fire breathed on him.”

Last year, the Bucs gamer threw for over 21-hundred yards and ran for nearly 800-yards. So keep overlooking Morris at your own peril.

“You get overlooked a lot of the times and sometimes you get unaccounted for, that creates big plays, and big plays win games,” Morris said.

Morris was named a Mr. Football Award semi-finalist last season, but he shrugs off that accomplishment.

“The goal is nothing individually,” Morris said. “I want to take this team as far as it can go, and all of these people here want to. My leadership [is what makes me special for the Bucs]. I’ve been a starter on this team for about four years.”

“His leadership skills. He gets everybody motivated and just pushes everybody,” senior Kristian Hughley said.

Despite his stats and leadership, Morris still has no college offers.

“That’s just another reason for me to work harder, another reason I’m discounted,” Morris said. “I have to work harder and try harder than everybody else.”
