CFC Scoring Threat Luke Winter Called “Brave in the Box”
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The CFC will try to upset another professional team on Wednesday as they entertain the Atlanta Silverbacks in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup.
The Chattanooga FC could use a strong performance from their top goal scoring threat Luke Winter.
CFC’s coach calls the native of England, "Brave in the Box."
With the way Luke Winter scores goals, you would think he uses his hands.
In 2012, he scored a hat trick in three consecutive matches.
Reporter-"What are his skills that make him such a good goal scorer?"
Said CFC head coach Bill Elliott,"He’s a goal scorer. It’s a mentality. A desire to score. It’s composure in front of the goal."
Said Winter,"Obviously I’m a striker, so I’m up there to just score the goals. CFC has great players who make it easier to give me those assists."
Winter embodies the spirit of the CFC fans known as the ‘Chattahooligans’.
Said Elliott,"Listen, I don’t know if he has ever scored a goal for us that he wasn’t bleeding out of his head or his arm or his knee or somewhere. He puts himself in places that other players don’t."
Said Winter,"I don’t know if it’s an English mentality or what, but I’ve always picked up injuries every game. I walk off with something."
Winter still manages to score despite drawing plenty of attention.
Said Elliott,"But he’s clever. He fights hard. It’s tough to keep him off the score sheet."
Added Winter,"Sometimes you can use the aggression and a little bit of anger. You can use it against them and find a goal or find that pass that helps sometimes."
Elliott believes it’s a luxury to coach someone with Winter’s skill set.
"Just to score goals as prolifically as he has. Every team in the world at every level is looking for that. And fortunately for us, he has been that guy."
