Chattanooga Celebrates Entertaining Win Over Former Rival in Marshall

Chattanooga and Marshall may no longer be rivals on the hardwood, but their match-up Tuesday night was just as entertaining as any rivalry.
An energetic crowd saw plenty of drama, dunks, and three’s, as UTC rallied for a 96-85 victory.
Marshall may not be the Golden State of college hoops, but they can score.
And that concerned Mocs coach Matt McCall since his team trailed by eight at the break.
Said McCall:”When we huddled up there at the half, I also told them, you gotta believe we can win this game. You gotta believe we are winning this game.”
Justin Tuoyo became a believer.
After scoring zero points in the first half, he hit this three early in the second half to cut the lead to one.
Said Tuoyo:”That was the first three I hit all season. (chuckles) When it went in, I felt like we can’t lose now. I just hit my first three. It just kind of got me going. My teammates were cheering. It got everybody going man.”
Defense got the Mocs going as well down the stretch.
Said McCall:”I really thought just our energy level defensively, especially in the second half to get stops. I mean they’re a terrific team. One of the best offensive teams in the country for a reason.”
While the Mocs got some stops, Marshall could not stop Tre’ McLean, who enjoyed a career night of scoring.
Said McCall:”I mean Tre’ played 38 minutes. He has 35 points, five rebounds, and five steals. He is one of the best players to ever come through this program.”
Said McLean:”My teammates just tell me to do whatever it takes to win. I mean they’ve got unbelievable confidence in me.”
McLean added it felt good beating a former UTC rival.
Said McLean:”I didn’t know how much the game really meant before but afterwards, like I saw a lady with a shirt. She said yeah this is like from 1990. I was like dang. That’s a long time to really keep this shirt waiting for us to play Marshall again, but.”(laughter)
Said McCall:”We need games like this going forward because once you get to Southern Conference play, every single night is like this.”
