Hixson, TN (WDEF) – Late Friday afternoon, Chattanooga Police responded to a deadly car versus train crash at 2201 Hamill Road.

Traveling west on Hamill, a 2015 Hyundai Sonata stopped at a railroad crossing, where the gates were extended with flashing lights and a sounding bell.

After a train traveling northbound finished crossing, the driver, Judy Kay Peer, 69, proceeded around the gate prematurely.

“Initial reports say that it went around the cross arms that were down and a train that was on the tracks collided with the car,” Sgt. Ortel said.

Investigators say a second train on the parallel track that was moving southbound struck the Hyundai Sonata in-between the two lowered gates.

Peer was declared deceased at the scene.

Officers with the CPD Traffic Division are processing evidence from the crash and ask anyone with further information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525.
