Chattanooga to tear down historical homes for UTC students

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Old historical homes in Chattanooga are being torn down, and some residents are not happy about it. The homes and church on Oak Street are more than 100 years old.

A developer will be putting in a large apartment complex that will house UTC students.

Heavy equipment is on site this afternoon, and one home is already demolished.

One Chattanooga resident who frequents the area says, he would like historical homes preserved.

“I walk over here and I see six homes and a church being bulldozed. Right here on the edge of uh, Fort Wood Historical Association, and, we’re you know, history’s being torn down and it’s, it’s not right. I don’t know what the city’s doing if uh, historical society’s doing something, but I just feel that the city needs to think more about their history.”
