Cleveland City Schools Close Due to Illness among Staff

Cleveland, TN – Cleveland City Schools were closed Wednesday due to a large number of sick employees.

“The majority of those absences were related to illnesses,” said Kelly Kiser, Director of Human Resources at Cleveland City Schools. “Teachers have children, and so, you know, some of it could have been related to those types of issues. But, by and large, that’s the case.”

Nearly an eighth of school staff called out sick.

“We had about 95 plus people that were out, yesterday. That was school staff, 95 plus in school staff.”

The school system encourages community members to apply for substitute teaching positions.

“If folks want to know what they can do, they can help us by signing up to substitute. We are looking for substitute teachers, each and every day. We use a staffing company called Staff EZ. They can find that online.”

Despite the challenges of COVID-19, students at Cleveland City Schools will be welcomed back into the classroom, tomorrow.
