Cleveland fire kills elderly man
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – An elderly male is dead after a fire in Cleveland this evening.
The 9-1-1 Communications Center got a call of a fire just after 7 p.m. at 685 4th Street South East.
A male and a female were inside the residence.
The woman was able to escape the fire with the help of a few young men who lived in the area.
“She was wanting to stay in there because of him. She didn’t want to leave because of him, and we just kind of talked to her to force her out. She was real frantic saying he is in the back room and that was the first thing we told the firefighters was, yeah, he’s in the back room. He’s still in there. The whole thing was just awful,” Nick Davis said.
“I saved one. I just wish I could’ve saved the other. I’ve never been in a situation like that,” Kendrick Harrison said.
The male was not able to escape, and died.
The fire is under investigation by the Cleveland Fire Department, with the assistance of the Cleveland Police Department.
