CSLA & CSAS begin Kindergarten application process soon

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts and Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences will begin their Kindergarten Application process in the coming weeks.

Officials say the process has changed slightly this year to be more respectful of parent’s time and to better facilitate parental relationships.

If your child will be 5 years old by August 15, 2017 and you are a Hamilton County resident, you are eligible to participate in the Kindergarten Admissions process for each school.

However, the process this year is completely separate for each school, so if you are interested in applying for both CSLA and CSAS, you must do the Admissions steps for EACH school.

Step 1: Attend a MANDATORY Information Meeting. CSLA meetings will be held at the school at 6579 East Brainerd Rd. on Tue, Sept. 13th at 6pm and Thur, Sept. 22nd at 6pm. Registration for this meeting is highly encouraged and you may register for either date at csla.hcde.org. Parking is at a premium at the school and the meeting will start on time, so it is suggested that you arrive early. CSAS meetings will be held at the school at 865 E. 3rd Street on Thur, Sept. 15th at 6pm and Tue, Sept. 20th at 6pm. Pre-registration for CSAS is not available. For parents who attend a meeting and choose to enter their child into the lottery for a particular school, applications will be given out AFTER the meeting and need to be turned in that evening. Only parents or legal guardians may attend the meeting and fill out an application. Applications will NOT be given out for the lottery unless a parent or guardian has attended the entire meeting at whichever school(s) they wish to apply at.

Step 2: The lottery for both schools will be held at the HCDE Central Office on Fri, Sept. 30th. Every eligible application that was turned in for each school will be drawn in the separate lotteries. This drawing will form the “wait list” for the Kindergarten class of 2017.

Step 3: The top 75 draws in each lottery will continue with the Admission process. Siblings of current students and children of CSLA or CSAS staff members will be offered admission first and then spaces will be filled from the lottery wait list. A complete list of steps (including a tour and seminar participation) will be handed out at the Information Meetings in September at each school. Successful completion of these steps will still be required in order to be eligible to be offered a seat for Kindergarten 2017 as space is available.
