Domestic assault leaves woman in critical condition
Christopher Merriman, 48, of Chattanooga was arrested and charged with one count of attempted first degree murder and one count of aggravated assault.
According to the arrest affidavit, police were called to a home in the 4600 block of Trailwood Drive after a 911 caller who identified himself as Chris reported that his sister was hit in the head by a man as a result of a dispute about money and crack. He also said the man drove away in a black car.
When police arrived, they found Christopher Merriman near his driveway with blood on his legs and shoes.
According to the report, Merriman told police that his sister, Elizabeth Merriman was badly injured.
When an officer entered the residence, he found blood splattered in the living room and Merriman’s sister lying on the floor in a hallway.
According to police, Elizabeth Merriman was bleeding very badly from her head. Police also located an ax handle above her head. She was transported to Erlanger with a severe head trauma and was last listed in critical condition.
Christopher Merriman reportedly confessed to assaulting his sister.
His bond was set at $275,000 and his next court date is June 12.
