Ed Orgeron and LSU Get a Shot at Upsetting Top-Ranked Alabama
Top-ranked Alabama travels to Baton Rouge on Saturday for a showdown with LSU.
Interim Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron might earn the job full-time if he could end Bama’s 20-game winning streak.
Ed Orgeron has coached with Lane Kiffin at Tennessee and USC. Saturday, Orgeron will be across the field from the Tide offensive coordinator.
Said Orgeron:”He was born with a football in his hand under Monte Kiffin. Then he has been studying defenses under Monte Kiffin his whole life, so he knows defenses. He knows offenses. He knows what hurts it, and he knows how to do a great job on game day.”
Bama leads the SEC in scoring, but Tigers defensive back Dwayne Thomas says LSU will dominate the Tide offense.
Reporter:”Where do you stand on that?”
Said Orgeron:”That’s wrong. He shouldn’t have said it. You don’t win the game in the papers. You win the game on Saturday night, so I will have a little conversation with Dwayne.”
Orgeron hopes Bama’s defense doesn’t dominate Saturday like last season when they held Leonard Fournette to 31-yards rushing.
Said Orgeron:”Last year Alabama shut down Fournette. What’s going to be different this year? Is that your question? Hopefully a lot. Obviously the best defense we have seen. Might be one of the best defenses in college football history. Thing that’s surprising or not surprising but pretty amazing is they have 64 tackles for a losses and 32 sacks, and we have to protect our quarterback. It’s going to be protection first.”
LSU will also try to protect their house in Death Valley.
Reporter:”Can Tiger Stadium really affect the game?”
Said Orgeron:”Yes. No question it does. It’s an intimidating place to play. I’ve been on the other side.”
Reporter:”You wouldn’t imagine anyone leaving at halftime this week would you?”
Said Orgeron:”That’s not my job. I know I won’t be leaving at halftime for sure.” (chuckles)
