Emily’s List of Weekend Activities – May 27, 2017

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — There’s a lot to do in Chattanooga, and in nearby cities this holiday weekend.

It’s a Memorial Day weekend tradition for Ringgold residents, and it could be yours too.

On Friday night and Saturday, you can head to Ringgold for the 1890’s Day Jamboree.

The street festival has been around for more than 40 years, and includes live music, dance contests, plus food and arts and crafts vendors.

There’s even a fireworks show Saturday night.

The free event is in downtown Ringgold until 10 p.m., Friday, and goes until 10 p.m. again Saturday.

If you’d like to get wet, and have some fun in the sun, Lake Winnie’s SOAKya Water Park is back open for the season.

Dodge some waves on the Crazy River, or ride some water slides.

The water park is open all weekend long, including Memorial Day.

Or you can enjoy the view from the top of Lookout Mountain, and listen to blue grass and folk country music for Summer Music Weekends at Rock City.

Feast on some southern food and lemonade, or check out the Raptors Birds of Prey show.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays through Labor Day weekend.

If you prefer Tchaikovsky to blue grass music, head over to Nashville to see the symphony perform some of the Russian composer’s greatest hits under the stars.

The music includes Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, featuring dancers from the Nashville Ballet, and Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture.

There will even be fireworks.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, at the Ascend Amphitheater.

You don’t have much time left to check out the Georgia Renaissance Festival.

Go back in time to 16th century England, and explore more than 150 artisan craft shops, interact with costumed characters, and eat lots of food.

The event is from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. all weekend long, including Memorial Day.

It continues through June 4.
