Erlanger groundbreaks new mental health facility

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – May marks mental health month and the Scenic City is getting a new 25 million dollar addition to help those who struggle with mental health.

Earlier today, May 8th, city leaders, Erlanger health officials, and community members gathered for the groundbreaking of the “Erlanger Behavioral Hospital.”

The new facility is a joint effort between Erlanger and Acadia Healthcare.

According to Erlanger Officials, the state saw a tremendous need for the hospital.

“The available capacity, available services are full. and i think the state saw there is a great need. so they provided the approval and we found a partner and we’re excited about being able to bring much needed services to the community.” said Erlanger official Joe Winick.

The new building will be on North Holtzclaw and Citico Avenues. It will be two stories and house 88 patients, both adults and children.

It’s set to be completed by September of 2018.
